BBC BASIC (86) for MS-DOS

Hi.

For this day and age, and what's about, this may seem like strange question, but is there an 'updated' version of BBC BASIC (86) for MS-DOS? Since moving up to a 64bit machine, I can no longer run this application (rare, as it was). However, I like the idea of using it with some of my older programs. (Yes, I'm that kind o' guy.)

I'm the same kind of guy

I run Windows 10 64-bit and use 16- and 8-bit software from the eighties with this free software:

If you can get a Windows 98 II install CD and install as you did in the old days. I recommend you disable LAN, because Windows 98 can access the internet.

PS. When you get used to use virtuel computers you may get to know iso-install.

Thanks Ivan. I'll definitely look into that.

However, I was also looking for a way to run older BBC programs on other machines as well, like my one at work. Installing a simple interpreter like BBC BASIC (86) for MS-DOS seemed like a great idea. I know (to a certain extent) I could always convert it into a .EXE in BB4W, but I like the idea of using the old version.

You can use the DOS part of Windows 98.

Or you can install DOS from diskettes. Then you will need a USB-diskette drive.

The links are active, but the 86 DOS one still links to the 2005 version, which doesn't work on my 64bit computer.

It would be nice if this version was open source as well since I understand low level dos even less that low level/direct xwindows

ie when you issue a basic Draw command whats really going under the hood . Thats what I want to know. I realise its not all fairies and pixes .

You should look into DOSBox if you want to use DOS software on modern computers.
