Mea culpa

Post by Hated Moron »

I am aware that I was allowed back on this forum on the strict understanding that I would NOT reply to queries posted here, at least not until other members had been given a chance to do so. It has been pointed out to me that on several recent occasions I have posted replies almost immediately, something that I must concede. Therefore in breaking the conditions that were imposed on me, I have forfeited the right to remain a member.

Not in the least. Over the years your replies have been consistently to the point and correct. And yes, very fast too. I consider this valuable. But if (and only if) you feel this "breaks any imposed condition" then send your reply after 1 day. But in my opinion just continue as usual. I've never understood this kind of criticisms.

If you look back through archived threads on the subject you'll find the view expressed that the forum was turning into an 'Ask Richard Help Desk' which, it was claimed, discouraged contributions from others and stifled a wider range of opinions.

Whether or not I agree with that, I was prepared to placate those complaining by not replying immediately (and indeed for a long time I was moderated, making it impossible for me to do so, although that became very frustrating when somebody posted something that was plain wrong, and I had no opportunity to correct it immediately).

However, sadly, my (thought to be) Alzheimer's Disease has selectively robbed me of my memory and I had completely forgotten that I'd made that promise. That is, until I woke up in a cold sweat last night having suddenly remembered, and realising that as a result I would probably be banned from the forum.

Hi Richard,

You will certainly not be banned by me, and since I'm the only admin at the moment.... ;)

I don't think the forum is overflowing with experts gasping to post their words of wisdom at the moment, so I think you may feel free to post responses whenever it feels convenient to you.

Best wishes,

D
