SyntaxBomb competition

Post by DDRM »

People might be interested to know that SyntaxBomb are running a competition to produce a game, with a deadline of October the 24th:

The only constraints are that you must provide either a Windows executable, or a web link for a browser-based game, and that the user can only use a single button (e.g. just the space bar) to control the game. BBC BASIC should be well up to it...

David Williams is looking at a game with a cannon on a train on a wiggly track, while I am torn between a version of space invaders and a space rocket game. Several other people have already posted ideas in Syntaxbomb...

What can YOU do with just one button to control it?

PS Cash prizes are on offer....

Oh, yes, sorry, I saw that. Will some balloons have hydrogen rather than helium (rise 4x as fast, but take out anything nearby when they explode)?

Will it work on a phone - portrait play should be easier, since the balloons have further to go and the pin will cycle faster - maybe you should score fewer for each?

Balloons will rise at different speeds - but, you know, it's extremely early days. It's all er... rather up in the air (!) at the moment. Up until now it's just about getting some sprites on the screen.

No, it's a BB4W production rather than cross-platform (otherwise I'd never get it finished on time), intended for a 800x600 window size, possibly with a full-screen option.

If anyone's interested they can follow my progress on the SyntaxBomb forum (with updates every few days, I hope):
