Nothing seems to have come of this suggestion, from three years ago. At first sight it doesn't seem sensible to combine a 2D physics simulation with 3D rendering, but something which approximates to an inclined plane (which I assume a pinball table does) could lend itself to exactly that.
Back then I was concerned about the difficulty of creating a suitable 3D model but that was before I realised that you can just go out and buy one (which is how the carolmedley.bbc, skaters.bbc and soldiers.bbc 3D models were acquired)! There are several at Turbosquid.
Does anybody feel up to the challenge of creating such a program?

This is exactly the challenge I would relish, but I am still messing around with other 3d stuff. If you are not in a rush I will add it to my list of things to do.

Re: Box2D pinball with 3D rendering
OK, thanks. I don't rule out trying it myself sometime but like you I don't have the time (or the patience) at the moment. Naturally I would want it to be fully cross-platform so that it could be included as one of the supplied example programs.
