User base ---- please try to place it on an extremely popular site.

Post by kigohhere »

Hello...I read these posts recently.
https://www.bbcbasic.co.uk/forum/viewto ... f=7&t=1070

I was very surprised. In fact, I always believe that a lot of people uses BBCSDL all around the world. Richard can try to enlarge the user base of BBCSDL significantly. A good suggestion: place BBCSDL on an extremely popular website which has a lot of visitors each day. BBCSDL will then be introduced to millions of visitors easily on that website.

Yes, BBCSDL is a mature software and should have more users, sure!

It's difficult to estimate the number of users, especially with a free product (hence there not being any sales figures to use as a baseline). The only reliable statistic available is the number of people seeking support, and it's primarily on that basis that I conclude that the number of active users is very small.

We have established that there are currently only about eight active members of this forum; that is based on the fact that the two most recent polls (which asked questions that everybody should have an opinion on, and nobody could object to answering) received that number of votes in total. When you consider that this is supposed to be the 'official' support forum for both BBC BASIC for Windows and BBC BASIC for SDL 2.0 that is a scarily low figure.

Who is going to pay? 'Popular' websites know how valuable their advertising space is, and placing an ad there is expensive. I may be enthusiastic about BBC BASIC myself, but it does not extend to that degree of generosity! I do pay a little towards promotion on Facebook, but it's only in the tens to hundreds of dollars range and I don't know whether it attracts enough attention to be value for money.
