Hello, yes.

I don't disagree that it would be great for BBC-SDL to be showing it's face and potential in other fora, but there are a (very) limited number of people with the skills to do that,
The main reason may be that the user base of BBCSDL is too small. This issue should be solved if the user base is large enough. The advantage of BBCSDL is that BBCSDL is an open-source freeware. Furthermore, BBCSDL looks quite versatile. It should not be too difficult to enlarge the user base. I notice that several BASIC languages are with large user bases. Perhaps we should look into why they are so popular.

If you are one of them, I'm sure we'd all be cheering you on if you use BBC-SDL to enter games competitions in other fora.
Of course I don't have enough programming knowledge to do this. I really look forward to a step-by-step game progamming tutorial in BBCSDL written by an experienced BBCSDL user!

One more thing, I discovered this:

Why David Williams left the forum? If David Williams is still in this forum, we can urge David Williams to place all the following nice games on Itch. BBCSDL really needs an 'effective' showcase of nice games! :|

Yes, indeed, he's a great loss to the community. It would be great to have him back, but again, it's his decision.

Best wishes,

D

David seems not only to have left this forum, but to have disappeared off the face of the earth entirely. He last posted to SyntaxBomb on December 22nd last year and last updated his own proggies.uk site on January 23rd. I have tried emailing him twice since then, but have received no reply.

Does anybody know what happened? The creation of the gfxlib library for BBCSDL, which goes some way to reproducing the functionality of David's GFXLIB2 library for BB4W, seemed to have re-ignited some enthusiasm, for example see his post here. But evidently that didn't last: even the download page for GFXLIB2 appears to have gone.

As well as concern over his own wellbeing, the loss of such a talent - David was responsible for some of the most impressive programs ever written in BBC BASIC, in my judgement - is a real blow to the survival of BBC BASIC for Windows and BBC BASIC for SDL 2.0.
